Adding a New Customer (Generator)
How to add a new generator to Route Simplified and get it onto a route.
When a new customer location is added, it needs a record in Route Simplified before it can appear on a route.
Step 1 — Search before you add
Go to Customers and search by name in the column search. Start with a partial name — searching for an exact match can miss near-duplicates that already exist. Also search by address. Duplicates are easy to create in Route Simplified and time-consuming to clean up. Confirm the generator doesn't already exist before adding.
Step 2 — Add the customer
Click Add a customer. Enter:
- Address (autocomplete is available — use it to ensure the address maps correctly)
- Customer name
- Contact information
Step 3 — Fill in the service details
Turn on the Oil toggle (or the appropriate service toggle for your operation) to enable the generator for scheduling. Then fill the service tab:
- Capacity — the actual tank size
- Fill rate — start with a fixed estimate; switch to calculated once 5+ services have been completed
- Due date type — start with Fill Rate or Service Interval as appropriate
Set capacity based on the physical tank size, not a historical collection amount.
Step 4 — Add to a route
Once the record is saved, the generator will appear on the map. Add it to today's or tomorrow's route so it gets its first service. After the first completed service, the system will have a real starting point for fill-level calculations.
